Biography

Dr. Akama has strong expertise in impact evaluation, theory of change design, and mixed-methods research, with extensive hands-on experience working with low-income and disadvantaged rural and urban communities. He has led and contributed to baseline studies, situation and gap analyses, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks, and third-party performance assessments for government agencies, development partners, and private firms.

His professional experience includes policy and strategy development, project appraisal, institutional strengthening, and infrastructure planning, gained through multidisciplinary engagements in the energy and transport sectors in both Kenya and Tanzania. Over the past two years, he has been actively involved in implementation-focused assignments, supporting project delivery, expenditure certification, and results monitoring for bilateral and multilateral development programs.

Dr. Akama is currently serving as Lead Trade Analyst on a national baseline, situation analysis, and gap assessment of Kenya’s National Electronic Single Window System (KenTrade), providing strategic evidence to inform system modernization and policy reform. He has also served as Lead Researcher on complex social impact evaluations, including the USAWA Project, where he assessed the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of interventions targeting human rights defenders from marginalized populations.

In addition to his advisory work, Dr. Akama is a lecturer and researcher at the University of Nairobi, recognized for his strengths in research design, data management, econometric analysis, and high-quality technical reporting. He brings advanced skills in ICT-enabled project planning and management, including training program managers on computer-aided infrastructure design, optimization tools, and MS Project–based planning, control, and M&E systems.

Dr. Akama is particularly valued for his ability to bridge rigorous economic analysis with practical implementation, translating data and evidence into actionable policy, institutional reform, and operational decisions.
